"Ad Mortem Kickstarter", refers to all the work & time I committed to helping the Ad Mortem Development Team (Head On Studios) with organizing and ensuring the 1,557 backers got their Discord Roles (that were apart of their package/tier they pledged for)
For example: Someone may have purchased a tier called Vessel. This tier has a corresponding "Vessel" role in the Discord Server (Discord is an online chat platform, typically for gamers) that would make them stand out compared to someone that hasn't backed/pledged to the project. The higher the pledge the fancier the role (as well as all of the other benefits from the pledge)
The problem that was presented is that Discord does not have a simple/easy way to hand out >1,500 roles to people. This is where I come in. "Discord bots" are profiles that show up on the user list like anyone else, but have a "BOT" tag next to them and can be programmed to do custom things. People make tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of dollars making these for specific needs like moderation (keeping the chat room clean) or fun bots (minigames etc)
I had noticed in a chat room that Silenceh (I will be referring to him as Sil from now on) who is the Community Manager for the Ad Mortem Development Team was asking if anyone knew of any Discord Bots that could auto assign roles in bulk (for the kickstarter tiers), I offered to make one for him and that's where it all started. Discord allows you to assign roles in bulk if you program it correctly, and I had a working prototype that was very barebones within a few days of us having our first conversation about it.
That conversation I had with him was around December of 2025, but we couldn't deploy it yet as we had to wait for UK tax stuff to go through... Roles counted as "deliverables" and were taxed accordingly.
It was radio silence for a few months until the 21st of may, where I got a message saying they were in the clear, and we could start utilizing the bot and handing out all the roles. It was about 5am or so, but I was ecstatic. To summarize, for the next few hours I was running back and fourth making final code changes that were requested by Sil, and then at 6:30am he started the bot and inputted the users and what role to give them, and it worked flawlessly. We added roles per backer tier, so some tiers were easier to give out, the main roadblock was the Vessel tier I talked about earlier which had 600 people. We were super concerned either Discord would fail, or the bot would fail. Neither happened, it worked FLAWLESSLY and I was really proud of myself. In the end, it took about 30 minutes to hand out all the roles (with some human error in between) and everyone was happy.Â
